    • New street layout
    • Wider pedestrian space on the southern side
    • Improved streetscaping areas and potential new trees
  • A new pick up and drop off space for visitors

New pick up and drop off space on the northern side of Rose Street near the Fitzroy Street intersection.

  • Removes 8 parking spaces

8 two-hour parking spaces removed between Nicholson Street and Brunswick Street.

Traffic impacts and information to consider

  • Creates the most opportunity for landscaping, seating and other streetscape improvements
  • Improves pedestrian safety as vehicles are only expected from one direction
  • Reduces traffic volumes and simplifies movements at intersections
  • Removes two-way passing conflicts
  • Works with the existing westbound only restriction on Leicester Street, only creating a small increase in travel distance within the local area
  • Helps balance the surrounding network of mostly westbound one-way streets
  • Some local trips may be less direct and involve additional circulation.
Traffic impacts on Rose StreetModerate traffic volume reduction of around 35% (65 fewer vehicles per peak hour).
Impact on surrounding streetsOverall, low impact on surrounding streets. Mainly increased westbound traffic on Kerr Street and Leicester Street.

Traffic volume changes on individual streets:
  • Leicester Street increased by around 50% (about 30 more vehicles per peak hour)
  • Fitzroy Street increased by around 40% (about 6 more vehicles per peak hour to the north of Rose Street or about 10 more vehicles per peak hour to the south of Rose Street)
  • Spring Street increased by around 20% (up to 12 more vehicles per peak hour)
  • Kerr Street increased by around 20% (up to 50 more vehicles per peak hour)
Impact on local accessOverall, there is a low to moderate impact on local access. Some local trips become slightly less direct. No significant impacts are expected as surrounding streets provide suitable alternative routes.
