Additional changes in concept option 3

This option retains two-way for vehicles between Lulie Street and Trenerry Crescent, with other safety improvements.

  • Visibility improvements

    Four parking spaces will be removed to improve driver sight lines.

Rich Street intersection

Two parking spaces will be removed at the Rich Street intersection including one on the north-western corner and one on the north-eastern corner to improve driver visibility for exiting vehicles.

Trenerry Crescent intersection

Two parking spaces will be removed on Trenerry Crescent to the north and south of Little Turner Street to improve driver visibility for exiting vehicles.

A footpath extension will be provided in place of the northern parking space.

Information to consider for option 3

  • Maintains full two-way access and direct routes for all road users
  • Avoids shifting traffic to nearby streets and intersections compared to one-way options
  • Retains flexibility of loading, servicing, and waste collection
  • Easier to manage vehicle speeds because cars need to slow down due to oncoming traffic in both directions.
  • Less traffic using full length of Little Turner Street as access is retained at both ends

Risks

  • No improvements to opposing traffic conflicts on a narrow street
  • No reduction in number of turning movement conflicts at intersections.
  • Continuation of complex interactions between vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists
  • Harder to ensure adequate shared zone behaviour by driver
