Thanks to everyone who had their say. We're now reviewing what you told us and will use your feedback to inform the final version of the Road Management Plan.

Project background

Every 4 years we are required to review our Road Management Plan (RMP) to ensure it is up to date and reflects the needs of everyone who walks, runs, scoots, cycles and drives around our municipality. The draft RMP and Review Report were available to take a look at and provide feedback on before 9am on Monday 21 July 2025.

The RMP outlines how we manage, inspect and maintain the roads, laneways, footpaths, kerbs and channels of Yarra, to ensure they are safe for everyone in our community.

Did you know we manage:

The Plan also outlines what we are and aren't responsible for maintaining. Main arterial roads and freeways are not included in the Plan as they are owned and managed by the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning (DTP). Examples of these types of roads would be:

  • Swan Street in Richmond
  • Brunswick Street in Fitzroy
  • Hoddle Street which runs through Abbotsford and Richmond.

The Plan does however cover assets that we are responsible for in roads managed by others, for example footpaths on these roads.

Have your say

We asked to hear your thoughts on the intervention levels and timeframes which are outlined in the draft RMP, as well as any general feedback you may have had on the Plan.

Intervention levels indicate when we will undertake maintenance on assets in the road reserve. An example of this would be the minimum size a pothole would need to be before it is fixed, and how quickly that maintenance will be undertaken.

You can find out more about the proposed changes by viewing the draft RMP and also by reading the Review Report 2025, which outlines the reasoning for these proposed changes.
