At the Council Meeting last Tuesday 17 June 2025, Council approved the Final Concept Plan for upgrading the play space at Fairfield Park in Fairfield.

Read the Minutes from the Council Meeting.

Purpose of the consultation

The draft Concept Plan was finalised using feedback we received from the Fairfield play space consultation earlier this year, where there was strong support to upgrade and extend the existing play area.

What did we ask?

We asked you to tell us your level of agreement with the following statements:

Do you think the draft Concept Plan encourages the following?

  • Structured play (such as climbing, swings, balancing etc)
  • Informal play (such as nature play, hide and seek, playing shops, doing cartwheels)
  • Social gathering (including supporting amenity for picnicking and barbequing)
  • Play for all ages
  • Connection to nature
  • Accessibility

You were also asked to select your top 3 design feature from the following:

  • Tree top unit
  • Swing play unit
  • Pyramid climbing structure
  • Water play
  • Nature play (structured)
  • Informal play

Lastly you were asked if there was anything you would change to improve the draft Concept Plan or any other feedback you would like to provide?

Who did we hear from?

What we heard and how it influenced the final decision

Amongst the 133 respondents, 98% were supportive of the project and their feedback on the draft concept plan was overwhelmingly positive. Some common requests which we have incorporated into the final design include additional play elements (specifically for toddler and pre-school age children), improvements to park safety, additional shade and furniture items, and an expansion to the water play element.

What comes next?

We are now moving to tender the works. A further update will be provided when the tender has been awarded, and the upgrade works are ready to commence.
