At the Council Meeting on Tuesday 17 June 2025, Council approved the final Concept Plan for upgrading the play space at Fairfield Park in Fairfield.
The final Concept Plan includes additional play elements (specifically for toddler and pre-school age children), improvements to park safety, additional shade and furniture items, and an expansion to the water play element.
Thanks to everyone who provided their feedback which was used to inform the final Concept Plan. You can view the Engagement Report and see the final Plan below.
We have an exciting opportunity to create a new playground and improve the overall play space of this much-loved park.
Using our recent draft Play Space Strategy as a guide, we have drawn up a draft Concept Plan and illustrative image for this space. We now invite you to review them and tell us what you think!
Our vision is to embrace the existing landscape that the play space is proposed on. By working around the existing tree network we have created a design that better connects the new play equipment and facilities with nature and the nearby Yarra River.
Existing outdated playground equipment will be removed and replaced with new play equipment, design features and amenities. This will ensure the play space caters for a diverse range of ages and users, now and in the future.
The draft Concept Plan also includes new water and nature play opportunities and places emphasis on accessibility. The new design does not currently include a spinner or monkey bars.
Such as climbing, swings and sliding.
Such as trees to provide shade and elements to support nature play including natural materials for loose parts play.
Including amenities for picnicking and barbequing.
Use of the play space by our diverse community for a variety of reasons.
Ensuring ease of access for people of differing abilities.
Such as hide and seek, playing shops and doing cartwheels.
