Public Feedback has concluded.
Urban Agriculture provides our communities with an exciting opportunity to grow food where we live, share in its preparation and distribute this food amongst our family, friends and communities, ensuring good fresh food is available to all equally.
Since February 2014 Council has been working closely with the Yarra community, hearing thoughts and ideas for growing food in their local area. These conversations have helped us develop a robust draft Strategy and Vision for Urban Agriculture in Yarra.
The strategy outlines the Yarra Community’s vision for the growing and consuming of fresh food in the City of Yarra. It will also define Council’s role in the delivery of this important work. More specifically, the strategy will:
- Strengthen and facilitate education and training in the area of Urban Agriculture;
- Foster community leaders in developing Urban Agriculture in their local communities;
- Cultivate relationships and partnerships between council, community and external agencies and groups in support of Urban Agriculture;
- Facilitate opportunities for the inclusion of Urban Agriculture into the community; and
- Raise awareness for Urban Agriculture within Council, through the Yarra community and beyond.
Council invited feedback on the draft strategy during August and September 2014 through a survey and discussion forum. All comments received will be considered before the final draft is endorsed.
