This consultation is open until 11:59pm on Sunday 8 November 2026.

What we're doing

Council is committed to improving road safety for all road users in Yarra.

Yarra City Council is investigating Rathdowne Street in Carlton North between Park Street and Princes Street to identify road safety improvements.

We are looking into Rathdowne Street as there have been crashes involving people walking or cycling, and we'd like to improve road safety.

The area was also previously identified through the Carlton North Local Area Place Making Plan (LAPMP), with some changes installed in the wider neighbourhood. We will check the other changes proposed to see if they should progress and also identify any further safety improvements on Rathdowne Street to reduce the number of crashes.

If you walk, ride, drive or travel along Rathdowne Street, we want to hear about your experiences and any safety concerns.

We'll use community feedback, crash data and site observations to identify ways to improve accessibility and safety for everyone using Rathdowne Street. Some changes to traffic conditions may require approval by the State Government Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) following a Council decision.

This may be the only opportunity to have a say on this project, unless Council decides to seek further feedback on the proposed traffic treatments.

The Rathdowne Street road safety study area

This road safety study looks at possible changes in Rathdowne Street in Carlton North. However, no changes on other streets are being considered at this time.
