Project background

65,000 homes, 18,500 businesses, 19.2 square kms of streets and more than 97,000 residents make up the City of Yarra.

Every home, business, street and resident is impacted by the Council Plan.

The Council Plan informs all our work, decision making and strategic direction over the next 4 years. At Yarra we are always better together. That’s why this draft Council Plan has been created, and an update has been made to our Community Vision after extensive feedback from the community. Councillors have been hard at work reviewing the community priorities identified during the community engagement process and have come up with a series of objectives and actions to address the aspirations of our community.

The draft Council Plan 2025-29 objectives aim to balance Council’s need to accommodate our existing, growing and changing population while remaining a financially sustainable organisation.

Through this consultation we are also reviewing and updating several key Council documents to ensure that Yarra continues to thrive over the next decade and beyond. These include:


A community led vision for Yarra that outlines your hopes, aspirations and priorities for the next 11 years.

Council will also be hosting an online information session at 6pm on Wednesday 14 May for community members to learn more about the Council Plan and the draft Budget 25/26.     Council will consider all feedback received through these consultations at the Extraordinary Council Meeting at 6.30pm on Tuesday 3 June. This meeting will be the opportunity for community members to speak to the feedback they provided as part of the consultation.
